The book community is the most amazing place to be. Its a wonderful community to be a part of. I smile every time I see my fellow blogger friends tweet or post something on their own magical blog. I’ve been in it for the past two years and I am not going to stop being a part of it. It is a magical wonderful places filled with such amazing unique people.
Yet now all I see is hate. Hate on diversity, hate on minorities, hate on human beings, and I cannot stand it. I keep quiet when it comes to my political stance but I’m done keeping quiet because now it is affecting the people I care about. Lately there has been a lot of 2017 books with homophobia, racism, whitewashing, and a lot of other crap. I ask my beloved publishers why? Why? Why are you publishing these types of books? We are living in a country filled with unnecessary hate that needs to be fixed and we read books to escape it not to go back in. If you are a writer that writes for teens, write it for all teens.
We as book bloggers write reviews for you, the readers. If we say we love a book, we love it. When we bash one, then we encourage readers not to read that one. I trust my blogger friends when it comes to their opinions on books, so when I hear about a book that is getting a lot of rave BUT it has some sort of hate in it you can make sure I am taking it off my TBR list and onto my Bash list. So when some readers see us bash on a topic that should be bashed upon they say “I don’t care, I’ll read it. You haven’t read it anyways. Give the book a chance.” Here me when I say that I as a reader and I as human being will not read a book that is racist, homophobic, or contains any sort of hate towards a human being. I promise you if you take that book out, there are tens of thousands of more books that you can read, that are amazing!
I will read diverse book and praise them, because they are meant to be praised.
I will not read problematic books because problems are meant to be erased.
I am a happy go lucky person. You see me like that on Twitter on the blog, but I get serious when it comes to this topic. It is ridiculous to me how some people can see this problem as not a problem. I see way too many good reviews on books where they shouldn’t even have been published! I am speaking to you, I am warning you, I am encouraging you to not promote these types of books.
To promote diversity instead.
Books is what brings us together. Don’t make books a reason to separate and divide us. Books are means of escape. Not a paper version of the harsh hell of reality. Because of books I’ve become an introvert with friends! Because of those kick-ass girls and those admirable characters I am more confident about myself! I don’t feel like that when I see a problematic book is about to be published and its being read. We need to support everyone, because we are all human beings. Human beings that share a passion for reading. So befriend them by not supporting problematic books. Books are magical and it shouldn’t be darkened by reality. Isn’t that what is really important?
Hate can not be, will not be, and must not be accepted here.
