I thought I would try a new feature on the blog. I am a reader y’all know that, but I am also a writer and other than my creative writing class and book reviews I never really show my writing to anyone. So I thought every Wednesday i would show a piece of my writing so 1. you guys get to see how my brain works 2. to boost up my confidence with my writing and keep to it.
I would absolutely love if you other bloggers would join in on this. I would be so excited to see your writing pieces every week 🙂
So now without further ado…this is my poem called Here
Here I walk down the crowded and dirt-filled roads of the Pernambuco city. Car honking and people talking coming out of every corner bringing the city to life. People in business suits lining up by the blue bus line, waiting their turn to start the day.
Here the sound of a powered saw brings me to reality and away from the pages of the typewriter. I see my hard working mother from the corner of my eye looking over her coworkers as the scene of wood fills up the room.
Here the sand of the beach is warm beneath my feet. Taking a sip of the sweet milk of the coconut, I immediately close my eyes to the feel of the sunset shining upon me.
Here I laugh out at the sight of the two Fernandas’ dancing dramatically to the beat of Brazil.
Here my eyes widen at the sight of this monstrosity standing in front of me. Thinking to myself for the billionth time “Why would my grandma get this painting?” The clown seeming to get even more real as the seconds pass by.
Here I am holding my little brother’s hand. Half my size but squeezing my hand tighter than I ever could. He becomes mesmerized at the sight of the airplanes passing by him one at a time.
Here the sound of rain patter patter onto the window. Sitting on my grandfather’s lap, counting sheep, I slowly fall asleep to the warm feeling of him hugging me.
