Arrrrrr maties! I have a new segment here on the blog, what I like to call a review cake! Where I take three books that have something in common and make a double, triple, or quatriple review on the blog! And today I’ll be doing it with Blackhearts, Truthwitch, and Starflight! Can you already guess what the theme is? *waits a couple seconds like Dora the Explorer* THAT’S RIGHT MATIES! Pirates! Aren’t I a good teacher? Now here’s the book info for y’all.
Life in the outer realm is a lawless, dirty, hard existence, and Solara Brooks is hungry for it. Just out of the orphanage, she needs a fresh start in a place where nobody cares about the engine grease beneath her fingernails or the felony tattoos across her knuckles. She's so desperate to reach the realm that she's willing to indenture herself to Doran Spaulding, the rich and popular quarterback who made her life miserable all through high school, in exchange for passage aboard the spaceliner Zenith.
When a twist of fate lands them instead on the Banshee, a vessel of dubious repute, Doran learns he's been framed on Earth for conspiracy. As he pursues a set of mysterious coordinates rumored to hold the key to clearing his name, he and Solara must get past their enmity to work together and evade those out for their arrest. Life on the Banshee may be tumultuous, but as Solara and Doran are forced to question everything they once believed about their world—and each other—the ship becomes home, and the eccentric crew family. But what Solara and Doran discover on the mysterious Planet X has the power to not only alter their lives, but the existence of everyone in the universe...
Here’s whats behind curtain number one!
In a continent on the edge of war, two witches hold its fate in their hands.
Young witches Safiya and Iseult have a habit of finding trouble. After clashing with a powerful Guildmaster and his ruthless Bloodwitch bodyguard, the friends are forced to flee their home.
Safi must avoid capture at all costs as she's a rare Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lies. Many would kill for her magic, so Safi must keep it hidden - lest she be used in the struggle between empires. And Iseult's true powers are hidden even from herself.
In a chance encounter at Court, Safi meets Prince Merik and makes him a reluctant ally. However, his help may not slow down the Bloodwitch now hot on the girls' heels. All Safi and Iseult want is their freedom, but danger lies ahead. With war coming, treaties breaking and a magical contagion sweeping the land, the friends will have to fight emperors and mercenaries alike. For some will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.
CURTAIN NUMBER TWO!
Blackbeard the pirate was known for striking fear in the hearts of the bravest of sailors. But once he was just a young man who dreamed of leaving his rigid life behind to chase adventure in faraway lands. Nothing could stop him—until he met the one girl who would change everything.
Edward "Teach" Drummond, son of one of Bristol's richest merchants, has just returned from a year-long journey on the high seas to find his life in shambles. Betrothed to a girl he doesn’t love and sick of the high society he was born into, Teach dreams only of returning to the vast ocean he’d begun to call home. There's just one problem: convincing his father to let him leave and never come back.
Following her parents' deaths, Anne Barrett is left penniless and soon to be homeless. Though she’s barely worked a day in her life, Anne is forced to take a job as a maid in the home of Master Drummond. Lonely days stretch into weeks, and Anne longs for escape. How will she ever realize her dream of sailing to Curaçao—where her mother was born—when she's stuck in England?
From the moment Teach and Anne meet, they set the world ablaze. Drawn to each other, they’re trapped by society and their own circumstances. Faced with an impossible choice, they must decide to chase their dreams and go, or follow their hearts and stay.
*is eating a cookie then looks at camera* OH RIGHT! Curtain number three!
*nods head* ALL OF THESE BOOK ARE FIVE HEARTS! Another thing that these books have in common 😉 I am making these review as spoiler free as I possibly can for all of you. The basic thing that you guys need to know is that I loved all of these books and I seriously out of this world recommend these books to all of you. I am going to go through each book one by one then discuss the books together about their similar aspects…if that makes any sense…LETS GET ON WITH IT!
Starflight my love. How much I adored you. The characters were what made this book amazing jjust like the Alienated series, Melissa Landers’ made me love and hold and cry for each and every single one of these characters. They each have their own unique aspects that builds into the story. Solora is one hard headed girl, and I haven’t read a book in a long time with that type of female lead and I really appreciated that. In my Doran is Damon from Vampire Diaries mixed with a little Dorian from Throne of Glass. A CAKE! I made a pun! *kneeslap* No but in all seriousness (At least I try) these characters give the book…life in a lack of better words. If these characters weren’t what they were there wouldn’t be a review cake to begin with. Each character in the crew made me fall in love with them one by one.
TRUTHWITCH! This book has been one of my most anticipated releases of 2016 for two reasons. 1. Its effing awesome. 2. I was part of the Waterwitch clan where basically promoted the book and got people all hyped up for it…I hated it. JK LOL!!! No I absolutely loved Truthwitch with all my heart. Safiya + Merik = The death of me. And obviously Merik was added into the never ending list of fictional boyfriends. GIVE YOURSELF A PAT ON THE BACK MER MER! Of course I loved the best friend relationship between Safiya and Iseult. They reminded me of my own best friend and I…but my best friends and I might not be as fit as they are.
Blackhearts…my favorite out of the three of these books. Blackhearts was one of my first reads of 2016 and a HELLA good one at that. Firstly, I love YA historical fiction so when I heard this is the origin story of Blackbeard I was already requesting it on ALL the blogger networks. I find these types of things so interesting and the book itself was BEYOND interesting. I loved every single bit of the story and by the end of the book I was craving more. Speaking of which…THERE HAS TO BE A SEQUEL! I DO NOT THINK I CAN GO ON WITH MY LIFE PEACEFULLY IF THERE ISN’T ONE YA HEAR!
These books together has one thing in common…yes it involves pirates. But I am talking about the bonding and the relationships that these characters build with one another during these stories. I loved how these authors did that…makes me wonder if they ever talked about it 🙂
WELL UNICORNS! I hope you liked this new segment I am trying out! Let me know your thoughts and opinions in the comments for BOTH the books and this new segment!
