Hello fellow booknerdigans.
I’m coming at you with a post that I have been debating on doing. I seen many letters to past self or future self posts in the community recently, and I love every single one of them. Then, one of my favorite bloggers of all time Alex @ Twirling Pages did this post (loved it obviously), and I decided that I was going to do it as well.
Now I personally do not like New Years Resolutions or New Year, New Me thing. I feel like the goals that you set in life does not come in one year. It evolves over time. So I am going to write to myself what my goals are for 2016 but these goals don’t need to be achieved, I just need these goals to be a work in progress 🙂 Since every single person is a work in progress.
Just so you know guys this is a very emotional post for me to write. This is me typing after only minutes after being done with my letter, ready to hit publish. Hit the publish button Gabi.
Dear Gabi, circa 2017
Hello…its me. I guess you can tell that it really is your past self from the way I started this letter. Hey Gabs, how are you doing? And I don’t want you to say fine. Or okay. Or give me a one worded answer like you used to. Really tell me. How have you been? Have you been smiling recently? I know that you didn’t do this often in the past. Of course, you would put on your unicorn costume and head on outside. Did you take the costume off? I hope you are the unicorn that you are inside and out like I know that you can be.
Since I am you, I’m guessing that you have read a whole bunch of amazing books this year. I already know you probably pushed half of them on our weirdo friends, and I already know that probably none of them have read it yet but you still keep pushing. I hope you continued your writing. Even though some times you feel like its the worst thing you have ever written, remember that it isn’t. It will never be. Any single piece of writing that you write will be amazing. Why? Because YOU wrote it. You might have not written it for the whole world to see, but you wrote it because that’s what you love to do. You love creating worlds and characters, and making these characters fall madly in love. Never stop writing Gabi.
I really do hope that you connected more. With our family, with our friends, and of course with yourself. I know that 2015 had its ups and downs, but life is a rollercoaster. It goes up and down, and well I know you Gabi are scared of rollercoasters. Since you came into high-school in 2015 I know you had a whole bunch of new friends, but I do really wish you can meet more in 2016. The more the merrier, and of course the crazier. I hope you have become closer to your family Gabi, they are your family, and they do love you. I hope you have many MANY movie nights and scramble games with them 🙂
Have you been taking care of yourself? Both physically and mentally? I want you to be happy. Of course, if you want those things you need to work hard for them. Work hard for yourself, because you deserve to be happy. I hope you keep having those randoms obsessions. Like that week that all you wanted to do what make a sketch book. Or your random dance parties in your room. Or that one time you decided you were going to sow a bag *raises eyebrows at that one*
I hope that you did end up going to BEA 2016, where I know that that has been your blogger dream ever since you joined this amazing community. How was meeting Deanna? Did you tackle her with your hugs? Did you meet any other bloggers…I really wish you have. So how is the blog? What new and exciting things did you plan for the blog? On another note…did you get your learners permit?! Young lady I hope you are doing good in school. I mean how else will you accomplish your dream of going to Oxford. I know that’s your ultimate dream and I hope you are working towards achieving it.
Can you come on your time traveling machine and tell me the answers to all these questions, actually cross that. I don’t wanna know what the future holds for me…I like my surprises.
Love, you’re past (and incredibly tired) self.
P.S. Remember to read this post again at the end of 2016. Write back to me, and don’t forget to smile.
