The night Quin Kincaid takes her Oath, she will become what she has trained to be her entire life. She will become a Seeker. This is her legacy, and it is an honor.
As a Seeker, Quin will fight beside her two closest companions, Shinobu and John, to protect the weak and the wronged. Together they will stand for light in a shadowy world.
And she’ll be with the boy she loves–who’s also her best friend. But the night Quin takes her Oath, everything changes.
Being a Seeker is not what she thought. Her family is not what she thought. Even the boy she loves is not who she thought. And now it’s too late to walk away.
Okay I have a lot to express for this book. A WHOLE BUNCH. Now getting right into the point, the book did start of on a good level. The characters were fantastic and the plot line was beginning to make me want to be part of this story. But there was one thing… I didn’t like John ever since the beginning. I knew there was something wrong with that guy! I mean who start off a book with instant love?! Yes yes I know that they were lovers ever since they were childhood kids but still I knew, I knew, that they shouldn’t end up together. But you never know when it comes to these books.
So anyway when the whole beginning started with the early plot twist and the way that they became a seeker, I was actually starting to enjoy the start of the book. It wasn’t FANTABULOUS but it wasn’t bad either. But then the middle came along….I was not a huge fan of the middle. Because I didn’t think that it was necessary and I was just bored out of my mind. But I needed to keep reading! I needed to finish this book because I knew that it would end up somewhere that I would like! But then…..THE SECOND HALF OF THE BOOK CAME. Oh second part of book how much I love you. I applaud you second half of the book. This part changed my whole point of view. If it wasn’t for the second half I would probably rate this book two stars. It was so interesting, the character development, and it was just out of this world amazing.
So the characters. Now I’ll rant about John later, but lets start off with our main character Quin. She is such awesome person. Usually I see the goody girls turned into bad-asses. BUT THIS TIME! It was a bad-ass turned into a BAD-ASS NURSE! Lets just let the world explode for this awesome characters development. I loved how smart, and how much she thought even though she wasn’t really supposed to think. And her whit! She did get hurt quite a lot in this book. Both on her body and her heart. Pobrecita. I really wouldn’t want to be in her situation. Now my baby Shinobu. If you’ve been stalking my Bookstagram you would know that I LOVE Shinobu. At first I just felt pity for him. He’s in love with his “cousin” BUT I WANTED TO HOLD HIM AND TELL HIM THAT EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OKAY!” I can’t wait to see more of him in the second book.
John. John. I hate you. You’re not a bad guy. You’re not. But you are a douchebag. YOU ARE NOT COOL DUDE! His relationship with Quin at first was sweet, but I wasn’t shipping it. (Refer back to Gabi’s Rants| Queen of Ships) They just weren’t right for each other. And at first I thought John would turn around and become a favorite character of mine…that NEVER happened. PLUS THE WAY HE TREATED QUIN’S MOTHER!! That’s cold.
OVERALL! I really really REALLY enjoyed reading this book. Mostly because of Shinobu and the second half of the book. Now the second book is coming in 2016! And i just need it in my hands! And that’s what I get for not reading this book a day before the second book comes out!
She had thought this brand would be an emblem of pride, but now it meant something entirely different. She was damned.”

A real smile crossed his face. “You don’t ask if I am a great mind, child? Because I speak gibberish now? Let me tell you – I once thought I was a great mind.”
“Now it does not matter. Great minds are not what’s wanted. Only good hearts. Good hearts choose wisely.
“How does one find a good heart?”
“It is luck child. Always luck. With you, I have been very lucky.”
