It's the accident season, the same time every year. Bones break, skin tears, bruises bloom. The accident season has been part of seventeen-year-old Cara's life for as long as she can remember. Towards the end of October, foreshadowed by the deaths of many relatives before them, Cara's family becomes inexplicably accident-prone. They banish knives to locked drawers, cover sharp table edges with padding, switch off electrical items - but injuries follow wherever they go, and the accident season becomes an ever-growing obsession and fear. But why are they so cursed? And how can they break free?
I just finished this book last night. And I started this book last night. WARNING I going to be using the word “amazing” a lot in this review. This book caught me by the first chapter. The whole story was so intriguing and it just made you want to keep reading and reading until you finished the thing. It was creepy and it was amazing, and it was just sooo good. It was soo good that it was one of the best read that I’ve read so far this year. The whole season thing was so creepy. One season through year you keep getting hurt and keep getting into accidents. I wouldn’t want to be in their places. And all the witches and ghosts thing was beautifully brought upon in the book that I just want more of this author.
Starting off with the characters. Cara was not much of a hero but she was “the hero” in the book and I’m really glad that we got see from her. She is a amazing protagonist to read from. The relationship between Cara and Sam was so beautiful. It wasn’t like in Clueless where they always fight and yet they still love each. they just plain love each other and they are each others best friends. And the whole “I’m not your sister” thing was just so funny and amusing to read from. From the beginning the mystery just stayed alive. All those witch craft carda and the things with the secrets made me want to join in one the mystery. Now the secret cards system was very interesting to watch. At the beginning of the story they were afraid of showing off their secrets to the world and by the end of it all they wanted was to get rid of the secrets.
Elsie was a also a very interesting character to read about. She was the center of the mystery. Every single clue or another mystery just lead on to her. And at the end I was so Detective-ey. Just seeing what about her is part of the whole story and let me just tell you the end of the book just led me in gasps.
The storyline itself was mostly in the present. As Cara tries to figure out the mystery about Elsie and the Accident Season. But there were some aspects that I was really glad was put upon the book. Such as the past flashbacks. Those flashbacks really helped the story move along and keep the mystery running which I was really glad for.
So all in all. Did I like the book? Its a 10/10 people! And you know that I’m not a big fan of creepy things but THIS BOOK! THIS BOOK! Was great! I know that this is a standalone book. And even though the book ended perfectly I just want to see more. I can’t wait for what else the author has in store.
