I was really excited to read this book. Based on the description I thought I was going to love it. I had really high hopes for this book, but I ended up really disappointed. Right after chapter 5 I knew there was something that I didn’t like from this book. One of the first things is that I was really really confused with what was going on even though this is not as much as a high fantasy novel as I read before. The part where I was confused was the actual court. The whole thing was really descriptive but I just couldn’t imagine it for some reason. “The whole trees and water thing just confused me. Now before I get it on to was else I didn’t really enjoy I’m going to tell you what I did.
I wasn’t a big fan of the characters, but I LOVED Kal. He was just so trustworthy and sweet unlike his family and freinds. The other princes and rich fellow were really arrogant and treated other badly, but Kal he treated everyone with respect and he himself wanted to be a part of the Fives Court whihc is a pretty awesome thing to do. And I did of course ship him with Jes. The only thing is, is that I don’t like Jessamy that much. At some points I actually did like her, but overall I was really “meh” about her.
I do not like her sisters. I didn’t like her sisters. Most of them were just really arrogant and cared only about getting a husband or being rich. Only at the end is what really made them see that there are other more important things in life. The father I also hated at first but when Jes had that little talk with huim then I stated to like him more so it was all good.
By the last few chapters it was a solid 4 stars for me. I thought the whole concept was really unique and original but the ending…the ending is what made my score just go wayyyy down. Yes its a cliff-hangerish ending and I know there is going to be other books, but I just didn’t like it. I don’t want to spoil it fo you so I’ll just say its a cliff-hnager what happens. So thats my review. Its been a while since I did a disappointed review. I know that this is just my opinion. I really recommend you try this book out, maybe you’ll like it better then me.
Bookish Quotes (kinda)
“There will come a moment in your life where you find yourself confronted with two choices, and both are bad ones. For me it was to stay in a place where I was choked and had nothing to look forward to and no way to prove my talents, or to leave everyone I knew and loved behind forever for a chance that might not work out. That is how the gods test us, by laying before us what seems to be a choice and yet is no choice at all. When we come to that fork in our path down which no road is clean, all we can control is what dignity and honor we take our inevitable step.”
