Miss Mayhem (Rebel Belle #2)
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Publisher: Putnam Juvenile
Life is almost back to normal for Harper Price. The Ephors have been silent after their deadly attack at Cotillion months ago, and best friend Bee has returned after a mysterious disappearance. Now Harper can return her focus to the important things in life: school, canoodling with David, her nemesis-turned-ward-slash-boyfie, and even competing in the Miss Pine Grove pageant.
Unfortunately, supernatural chores are never done. The Ephors have decided they’d rather train David than kill him. The catch: Harper has to come along for the ride, but she can’t stay David’s Paladin unless she undergoes an ancient trial that will either kill her . . . or connect her to David for life.
I loved Rebel Belle. It was one of my 2014 favorites and I’ve been waiting for Miss Mayhem for so long now. When I got the book in the mail the first thing that I noticed was the it was half the size of Rebel Belle. I was a little iffy about that, because by that time I thought that Rebel Belle was a duology. I got it, I read it, and……yeah. I had really high hopes for this book, since i loved the first one I thought I was going to love even more the second one. Lets just say that it didn’t really meet my expectations . But thankfully *swipes forehead* Rachel Hawkins herself said that there is indeed going to be a third book and maybe it could compensate for Miss Mayhem. Don’t get me wrong I really liked Miss Mayhem, it was a great books. It just wasn’t AS good as Rebel Belle.
*warning contains spoilers from both Rebel Belle and Miss Mayhem. So if you haven’t read those books yet buh-bye for now*
Okay lets go to the beginning where we see David and Harper together. TOGETHER! And by TOGETHER I MEAN TOGETHER TOGETHER. As in bf and gf together. *cue fangirling screaming* My exact reaction was that, but the thing that I realized a little into the first chapter is that the actual book doesn’t pick off where we left off. Where we left off was when Dee was captured, and I thought we were going to start the book with trying to find Dee. Yes we were trying to find Dee but that is months into our search for Dee not just as she was captured. Then we hear that David is having stronger visions now and Harper disabled that to protect him. Its the classic ” I love him so I must protect him from all the dangers in the universe type thing” Was it just me or did anyone get a little annoyed with Harper when she said that.
You know what I really miss though from Rebel Belle was the excuses. HARPER DIDN’T HAVE ANY FREAKING EXCUSES! NONE! Another thing that I really missed was the banter between David and Harper. Yes we still had the t-shirt thing with David but now that they are a couple there is less banter and more love drama. Now I love them as a couple. OTP for day, so what I don’t understand is that they are keeping so many secrets from each other thinking that they are helping the other one when it really isn’t and it will eventually lead to a break-up. Getting real here I literally screamed at my book when David and Harper had that fight and broke up. Um. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO SAVE EACH OTHERS LIVES NOW WHEN YOU DON’T EVEN WANT TO LOOK AT EACH OTHER!.
Dee and Ryan. Ryan and Dee. I did not see that coming. Sure I had the 5% chance of them getting together but I didn’t really think they would. So far I’m not shipping it, but I know that one day I will eventually say OTP when they start holding hands. Now the reason I gave this book 7.5 stars. The ending. The ending! It broke my heart. I thought it was the end of the series! It broke my heart to think that one of my all time favorite OTP’s is going to get together at the end. David is also my favorite characters so to think that he moved away is just heart breaking. Now we have the third book to anxiously wait for though. But I don’t know how its going to play out. They lost their powers so are they going to get it back? Anyways I actually am pretty in love with the series so far. I know my rant may seem that I think otherwise but I don’t. I really do love this series and I can’t wait for the third book 🙂
No more quotes so far 🙁
