Cress (Lunar Chronicles Quartet)
Author: Marissa Meyer
Publisher: Feiwel and Friends
In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.
Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who’s only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.
When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.
Oh my sour freaking skittles! People this is probably the best out of all the three that are out! Its wowww. You know how I know that this is true? Firstly, at exactly 7:45 this morning I was on page 27. 27! Right now 8:26 p.m. I finished this 550 page beauty. Now this is going to be a full spoiler review so if you didn’t see the warning at the top of the post I recommend you scoot your little butt out of here…..you gone. Okay. PEOPLE OF THIS PLANET EARTH LET ME JUST FANGIRL RANT THORNE AND CRESS RIGHT NOW. They are sooo adorable together. Thorne is like 10 times more Thorne and Cress is so shy and kinda nerd y like us and it just makes us so *squeals* Now don’t get me wrong I love Kai and Cinder, Wolf and Scarlet, butttttttt I think my favorite ship in this series is Cress and Thorne. Thorne is now officially added to my fictional boyfriend list. Sorry Cress.
Now we start from the very beginning of the book and we meet Cress and right off the bat we know she is going to be so much fun to read about. She doesn’t know that much about Earth because she never been. She had been locked up in the satellite for the last 7 years. And we know in this book that she is going to be somehow in Earth. SO it was so much fun her kinda banter with Thorne when she was talking about how beautiful the sand was and he was like “I don’t know how you’re going to react when you see trees” When she was talking about her past and her mistress, and how her parents gave her up because she was shell. I was like “nuh uh honey” THIS IS ALL A LIE. YOUR PAST IS A LIE. When she was having that i think video chat with the crew, it was hilarious. You know that part where she is talking to them and then all of a sudden Wolf was like “I know how you feel about someone taking your love away. I mean I would be upset if someone took Scarlet away.” Woah dude! Thats soooo cutee. I squealed like the fangirl I am in that scene. Then Iko was like “AWWWWW Wolf just said he loved Scarlet. OTP!” (she didn’t say OTP but I wish she did.)
Then the tragedy that is Scarlet and Wolf. After that scene everything went downhill for them and I felt so freaking bad. Scarlet got taken away by Cress’ Mistress, Wolf became the “old Wolf” because his beloved Alpha (see what I did there 😉 was missing. Oh my those scene where Scarlet was getting tortured I was so “No don’t do that to her! I will go over there and kill you myself!” I think that Wolf was hit the hardest in this book. Sure Scarlet did get tortured. Thorne said to Cress not love him, Kai mistrusted Cinder at first. Yet my heart was yearning for Wolf. I wish by the 5th chapter in Winter he just goes to Scarlet somehow. (Please Marissa will you make my shipping heart happy?)
Then we have Ms. Cinder and Mr.Kai. For the first few parts of the book I was bit annoyed with Kai. He didn’t try to look for Cinder in any way, shape, or form. SHE LOOKED FOR HIM THOUGH SO ITS ALL GOOD. I feel that my favorite Cinder/Kai scene was when she told him that she was Princess Selene and then he asked “You’re not messing with my mind now right” and she said and then HE JUST GRABS HER FACE AND KISSES HER. Again my little shipping heart was happy.
Yet seriously people I can not wait any longer anymore for Winter even though I literally just finished Cress now. So if you have read the book PLEASE tell me your favorite scenes. There was so many good ones! Winter is coming out this Winter and its a 800 page beauty and I’m just like *sigh*. So I’ll wait. I will try and wait for Winter. I know that there is a novella for Queen Levana’s backstory but I’m a little eh. When it comes to that. I heard half and half. I heard its worth the read and I heard it isn’t. So is it? Anyways if you can not tell I LOVED THIS BOOK and I hope that you guys enjoyed it as much as I did 🙂
“Do you think it was destiny that brought us together?”
He squinted and, after a thoughtful moment, shook his head. “No. I’m pretty sure it was Cinder.”
― Marissa Meyer, Cress“He froze, becoming stone still. As the hover climbed the hill to the palace, his shoulders sank, and he returned his gaze to the window. “She’s my alpha,” he murmured, with a haunting sadness in his voice.
Cress leaned forward, propping her elbows on her knees, “Like the star?”
She stiffened, instantly embarrassed, and scooted back from him again. “Oh. Um. In a constellation, the brightest star is called the alpha. I thought maybe you meant that she’s…like…your brightest star.” Looking away, she knotted her hands in her lap, aware that she was blushing furiously now and this beast of a man was about to realize what an over-romantic sap she was.
“It’s all right,” said Wolf. “You loved her. I would have felt the same if someone wanted to erase Scarlet’s identity and give it to Levana’s army.
Scarlet stiffened, feeling heat rushing into her cheeks. He certainly wasn’t insinuating….
“Aaaaw,” squealed Iko. “Did Wolf just say he loves Scarlet? That’s so cute!”
Scarlet cringed. “He did not-that wasn’t-” She balled her fists against her sides. “Can we get back to these soldiers that are being rounded up, please?”
“Is she blushing? She sounds like she’s blushing.”
“It’s beautiful out there.”
A hesitation, before, “Could you be more specific?”
“The sky is gorgeous, intense blue color.” She pressed her fingers to the glass and traced the wavy hills on the horizon.
“Oh, good. You’ve really narrowed it down for me.”
“I’m sorry, it’s just…” She tried to stamp down the rush of emotion. “I think we’re in a desert.”
“Cactuses and tumbleweeds?”
“No just a lot of sand. It’s kind of orangish-gold, with hints of pink, and I can see tiny clouds of it floating above the ground, like…like smoke.”
“Piles up in lots of hills?”
“Yes, exactly! And it’s beautiful.”
Thorne snorted. “If this is how you feel about a desert, I can’t wait until you see your first real tree. Your mind will explode.”
