The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers.
To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.
Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of
those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.
But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?
FINALLY A FANTASY I UNDERSTAND FROM THE BEGINNING! I had great expectations for this book. This book has been all over the book blogger and Goodreads community so of course I had really high expectations for it. It was a great book but it didn’t receive such a high score than I expected it would. FOr the first half of the book I was just fangirling like crazy. It was a amazing fantastical awesome first half. That first half really made that book great to me. Then the other half….It wasn’t as good as the beginning. I don’t know how many times I changed my ships in this book. I didn’t know who to trust. First there was Kilorn and then Cal came along. OS I went to Cal’s side, then we met his brother Maven. Went to his side then after a couple chapters I was back to Cal. *spoiler alert* *spoiler alert* Maven Maven Maven….. you sicken me. I trusted you! You used me you used all of us! What the heck is the matter with you!? Betraying us like that just stop no just stop I don’t want to hear it! The thing is that this book is going to be a series so there is still going to be a somewhat love triangle. So does that mean that Maven is going to be the good guy at the end? Kilorn is going to be a part of it? I don’t know guys I don’t *spoiler alert done* *spoiler alert done*
Characters. Lets start of with Mare. I loved her! She is one kick-ass heroine. Her power though. Thats just Woah with a capital W. When you first meet her and she’s a criminal you know your going to lover her. She’s rebellious and unique. I wouldn’t call her one of my favorite characters though or someone you want to be. By the middle of the book she is just very confused on what is going on and her loves it just “Why do you have to do this to her?” The first 3/4 of the book I was with her she was awesome. Then in that last 1/4 of the book she was a giver-upper. So I got a little bit disappointed with her.
Cal and Maven. Cal I was in love with him in that chapter that we met him, and if you read the book you got a little confused when it came to this character and what he really wanted. So it was kinda of a love/hate relationship with that guy so I need to read the next book to find out how my feelings are for him. Maven. Maven. Read the book you’ll see why. Kilorn I was really grateful for being in the book. At first I thought that he was going to be part of the love triangle but no he was just her BFFL. Who I really liked was Mare’s siblings. More the brothers than the sister. They are so protective towards her even away at war. It was great brother-sister relationship…..OH and Luke I forgot about him. Yeah he’s great….. seriously he is.
Overall the book was great. I really recommend it. The only thing that really lowered my score for was the second half other book where nothing big happens, and the mixed feelings I had towards some of the characters. I feel like I will judge a book more on its characters than the actual story so thats why I lowered my rating for that.
“Are you going to babysit me every day or just until I learn my way around?”
“What do you think?”
“Here’s to a long and happy friendship, Officer Samos.”
“Likewise, my lady.”
“Don’t call me that.”
“Whatever you say, my lady.”
