The Queen Of Bright and Shiny Things

Sage Czinski is trying really hard to be perfect. If she manages it, people won’t peer beyond the surface, or ask hard questions about her past. She’s learned to substitute causes for relationships, and it’s working just fine… until Shane Cavendish strolls into her math class. He’s a little antisocial, a lot beautiful, and everything she never knew she always wanted.
Shane Cavendish just wants to be left alone to play guitar and work on his music. He’s got heartbreak and loneliness in his rearview mirror, and this new school represents his last chance. He doesn’t expect to be happy; he only wants to graduate and move on. He never counted on a girl like Sage.
But love doesn’t mend all broken things, and sometimes life has to fall apart before it can be put back together again…
Okay. First chapter “Everyone thinks I’m smart, but I can’t get geometry.” “It’s like a foreign language” Chapter two, “The public library is one of my favorite places in the world”. THIS IS ME! *sings out of key* This is real this is me I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be now let the light shine on meeeeee. Okay thats enough back to the book. I really really really liked this book. I really really really LOVED all the characters. The characters themselves were just so relatable. The story itself was very light-hearted even though it did go into some serious topics. Overall I really enjoyed read this book.
The characters. Sage. She is me-ish. Her interests and disliked are somewhat like mine and at some point in the book she said she would be 18 in July, then I’m like “OMG! She was born on my birthday! July 18th! That’s awesome!” Then I read it again “She WILL be 18 in July.” Didn’t say exactly which day but I will convince myself that it is the 18th. Even though she was really relatable she wasn’t as relatable as Cath was in Fangirl. I thought she was a really funny and nice person and she makes a really good protagonist.
Shane. Shane. Shane. I would’ve liked him a lot more if I stopped having a skater boy image in my head. Don’t get me wrong I love him. He’s an amazing guy and great for Sage. Its just…I can never get rid of that image. So I’m like “eh”. He is awesome personality wise. He is a guitar player and when he wrote a song for Sage I was like “awwwwwwww” He is probably on the bottom of my never ending “Fictional Boyfriend List” He is perfect for Sage and I hope in the later future I can have a novella about them *wink *wink.
Other characters. Ryan and Lila. Ryan I was a little frustrated and irritated at beginning but I guess *sigh* he won me back. Lila is just plain cool. She is a such a great friend to Sage and she supports for her and cares for her. Plus I ship her with Ryan. That Dylan though *tries to strangle thin air* ….how much I despise him.
All in all the story was great I loved the background and the characters and I really really recommend it to you. Would I add it to my favorites? Probably not. It wasn’t the best book of all time but it was worth the read.
